Tribal Affairs Ministry, Amazon Launch Computer Skills Training Programme For Teachers Of Tribal Schools

New Delhi: In partnership with Amazon, the Union Tribal Affairs Ministry on Wednesday began a two-day course on computational skills for teachers at Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) for tribal pupils. Early access to computer science education for tribal and other communities is the objective of a face-to-face training programme for the teachers of 54 EMRS in the six states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, and Telangana.

The Amazon Future Engineer (AFE)-CSR initiative seeks to pique kids’ interest in pursuing postsecondary education and a rewarding career in computer science. Additionally, it gives teachers the tools and assistance they need to promote computer science and aid in students’ learning. Launching the AFE programme at the 54 schools in these six states that have access to digital infrastructure, such as a computer lab and reliable active internet connectivity, is one of the goals.

Fundamentals of computer science, an introduction to coding, logical ordering, learning loops, block programming using open secure source platforms, class chat sessions to debate the tech industry, various tech projects, etc. are some of the course modules. Residential schools have been constructed in distant places as part of a central sector programme that was started in 1997–1998 to provide tribal pupils with a decent education. The ministry has approved 684 such schools thus far, 378 of which are reportedly operational.
