Board Exam 2020 Tips: Alka Kapur, Principal Modern Public School shares the Do’s and Don’ts of board exam prep

Board Examinations 2020 are round the corner. Come February, most of the state board as well as CBSE 10th 12th board examination 2020 would begim. Mrs. Alka Kapur, Principal, Modern Public School shares tips.
Preparation for board examination is always a crucial task for students because the end result relies significantly upon the efforts, they made during the preparation leave. And, exam stress is quite normal and common among children because there is a pressure to study and learn a vast syllabus for exams in a limited time period.
If it’s about just passing the examination, then relying on extra classes will work for them. Today, no one just wants to pass the exam but wants to score above distinction in all the subjects because the scorecard works as the ticket to entry in a reputed school if the percentage or grades are outstanding. Thus, you should need strategies which not only help you to score well but also reduce examination related stress. Below are some ‘do’s and don’ts tips’ for the students preparing for the board exams.
Activities you must always follow (Do’s)
Follow a time table: Develop a study plan by making a strict time table and adhere it as much as possible. Identify your goal in concrete terms and put it in writing to strengthen your resolve. Remember, this is not only an academic challenge; it is your job in life right now. Make it a successful and enjoyable year!
Have a positive attitude: Adopt a positive mental attitude as this will upgrade your energy levels and keep you charged up for the examination. Find out if you are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner. This self-knowledge can help you make more effective use of your time
Pay attention: Pay attention in the class and concentrate on the subjects. This will help you achieve a high score. Make it a habit to make notes while studying. Do not skip homework as it helps to reinforce the concept done in the class
Stick to your syllabus: Do not study many reference books. Being thorough with the books followed by your subject teachers or recommended in the curricula should be the first prerogative as these books are enough for you to clear your concepts and cover the whole syllabus at a faster pace
Practice more and relax: Solve previous years’ question papers. Write and solve, and do not just depend on reading and solving. The more you write, the more you will grasp, and it is your writing practice that will help you in the examination
Write neatly and carefully: Write neatly in the answer sheet. A well-presented paper always impresses the examiner. Leave space after every answer, divide your long answers into meaningful paragraphs, and underline important points. Keep ten minutes to review all your answers after completing the exam paper
Activities you must not follow (Don’ts)
Don’t compare yourself with friends: A student must understand that each and every person holds different capability in learning; none of the two persons has the same qualities or attributes. Hence, it is very important for children not to compare themselves with their peers. Although a healthy competition should be allowed, drowning into stress and depression over the result should always be avoided. In fact, with self-confidence and strict planning, even the toughest examination in life can be passed with full marks
Don’t let the stress affect your performance: Cramming all through the day and night before exams is a common practice among students, which often becomes a major reason behind their poor performance in the final exams. It’s important to note that cramming is a sign of excessive exam stress and anxiety in which students are more likely to lose focus while studying. This can be managed by stress management strategies and exercises
Don’t go beyond the syllabus: Studying more books for comprehensive learning is undoubtedly a good habit, but never touch a new book during the preparation leave if you have not read it yet. Remember, preparation time is for revising and clearing doubts, exploring books other than the books recommended in your syllabus is not the right decision at the time when you should focus primarily on revisions
