Delhi DoE Suspends Recognition Of DPS Rohini Over Fee-Hike Norms

NEW DELHI: For breaking the norms regarding fee increases, the Directorate of Education (DoE) in Delhi has suspended the recognition of Delhi Public School, Sector-24, Rohini. However, the school will be permitted to finish the academic year 2022–2023 with recognition, and the suspension of recognition will not have an impact on the pupils enrolled in the present academic year 2022–2023 DPS Sector 24 Rohini, Delhi, has been instructed not to accept any new students for the academic year 2023–2024.

The Delhi School Education Rules, 1973 were broken by the school authorities, according to a DoE statement released on Tuesday. “The school authorities seem to be engaging in profiteering, commercialization, capitation, and exploitation of parents by charging unwarranted fees, and they violated Rule 50 (xvii) and 50 (xix) by not providing relevant documents and records to the inspection team who visited the school premises on November 7, 2022,” the statement read.

According to the DoE suspension order, if the suspension is not lifted by the end of the semester, all pupils at the school would be transferred to neighbouring recognised schools managed by the DPS Society or, with parental permission, to nearby Delhi government schools. Overcharged fees that have already been paid must be immediately reimbursed to all students.

The DPS Society will reassign all of the school’s personnel—teaching, non-teaching, and other—to one of its other accredited institutions under the control of the NCT of Delhi.
