Delhi Private Schools Asked To Remain Shut Till Next Week Over Cold Wave

NEW DELHI: Due to the cold snap, the Delhi government has advised all private schools to stay closed through January 15. The Directorate of Education’s warning came on a day when Delhi’s low temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius was recorded.

In response to the cold wave that is currently affecting Delhi, all private schools in that city are recommended to remain closed until January 15, 2023, according to a DOE (Directorate of Education) previous directive.

The majority of Delhi’s private schools were set to reopen tomorrow after a winter break that lasted until January 8.

Delhi’s public schools will also be closed until January 15.

The temperature in Delhi today was 1.9 degrees Celsius, which is the second-lowest reading in the past ten years. The Safdarjung weather station took the temperature this morning. Only once in the past ten years has the national capital experienced a colder morning, on January 1, 2021, when the low was 1.1 degrees Celsius.

Traffic flow on roads, trains, and in the air has been impacted by the cold wave and thick fog. Today about 5:30 am, there was just 50 metres of visibility in the vicinity of Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport.

People have been cautioned by the Indian Meteorological Department to limit outdoor activities as it may cause frostbite.
