NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has given the green light to the proposal of declaring a public holiday in the city from September 8 to 10 to coincide with the G20 summit. During these dates, all schools and government offices, including MCD offices, will be closed.
In preparation for the G-20 summit, scheduled on September 8, 2023, the state administration is considering implementing movement restrictions for the public in Delhi. The aim is to ensure smooth routes for G-20 dignitaries by reducing road congestion. The Department of Education has instructed schools to declare a holiday for students and employees on September 8, 2023.
Prior to the main event, G-20 participants might arrive earlier for a programme at Pragati Maidan, accompanied by a cultural event. The leaders’ spouses will visit the National Gallery for Modern Art and Pusa Road. Officials are also considering guided tours for them to explore other city attractions.
The main event, scheduled for September 9-10, is expected to see the presence of 29 heads of state, representatives from the European Union, invited guest countries, and 14 leaders of international organizations. Numerous hotels in the Delhi-NCR region are designated to accommodate attendees.
