Maharashtra: Ramshackle Village School Gets New Lease Of Life After Makeover By NGOs
NAGPUR: Thanks to the initiatives taken by young professionals and businessmen, a run-down village school in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district has been converted into a cutting-edge facility. According to an official, the primary school managed by the Nagpur Zilla Parishad in the Sukali village of the Hingna taluka got a significant makeover when two NGOs learned about its terrible state.
According to him, there were only two classrooms at the school, which served 200 pupils in Classes 1 through 5 from three villages. The plan was developed by Bridge the Gap Foundation and Nagpur Round Table-83 (NRT-83) to give the school the greatest facilities and infrastructure available.
When learning about the school in January 2022, the two NGOs agreed to rebuild it with contemporary amenities, and after all the necessary legal procedures were completed, construction got underway the following month. The school opened on October 9 when the first phase was finished.
Abhay Agrawal, chairman of NRT-83, stated to PTI that “for us, the objective at hand was to transform the school, which had only one restroom and two classrooms.”
“Three classrooms with desks were built on the ground floor in the first phase. A computer lab with a projector has been converted out of one of the classrooms. Boys’ and girls’ restrooms are now located in separate parts of the building at the school “said he.
According to Mr. Agrawal, the school cost around Rs. 40 lakh to construct and was funded by both private donations and corporate grants. According to him, the money was raised at NRT-83 using a variety of creative means, including fundraisers, CSR donations from significant corporations, and private donations from Nagpur and other parts of the nation.
In the second stage of the project, additional classrooms and a computer lab will be built, he added.
“This is what the school wants, so we’ll attempt to secure grants and funding while also moving through with the other projects. We will offer auxiliary and infrastructure services, “added Mr. Agarwal.
In the meantime, the NGO Bridge the Gap Foundation teaches science, math, and English speaking to pupils in the village from pre-primary through graduation level, according to Sukali local sarpanch Dinesh Dengre.
“Together, the two organisations created a lovely school in the village with excellent facilities. People from our hamlet and neighbouring communities alike are pleased with the school’s makeover “said Mr. Dengre.
