Noida school shuts down over Coronavirus scare, two families quarantined
As a precautionary measure, the school has shut down and postponed its annual examinations. The students and their parents have decided to get themselves tested
A top school in Noida has reportedly been closed after it turned out that a class 6 student’s parent tested positive with COVID-19 on Monday. Another school in the area has also been shut, claims a TOI report.
The school, according to reports, is located in Sector 135 of Noida. It has been closed for the next three days for fumigation due to the concerns over the infection. The other school is located in Noida’s Sector 168.
Many students of the school had reportedly attended a birthday party, on February 28, which the infected person had organised. Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate BN Singh said, “We’ve quarantined two families of children who had dined with the family of the child in Agra. And a team of doctors and CMO are in school. There’s no reason to panic.”
The school has postponed its annual examinations. Fumigation was underway at both schools. A Health Department team led by Noida’s chief medical officer visited one of the schools in the morning, an official told PTI.
On Monday, two cases of COVID-19 were identified in India, one of them is from Delhi and currently under treatment and is being closely monitored. According to the Health Ministry, the person who has tested positive from Delhi has a travel history to Italy, which Europe’s epicentre for the virus that has claimed 3,000 lives so far. Six more cases with “high viral load” for coronavirus have been detected while sample testing in Agra, said the health ministry in a statement. These were people who came in contact with Delhi patient; they are now in isolation.
Some family members of the patient have been shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for tests after they showed symptoms of the virus. Some other relatives were asked to stay quarantined at their houses only. One of the accountants working for the man, who lives in Mayur Vihar, and some of his relatives have also been shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for tests, they said.
